    Penny Wei - Founder

    Penny Wei is from Shanghai and Massachusetts. She is passionate about gender induced social issues and hopes to keep account of them through journalism. She also loves literary arts, and can often be found writing or editing poetry. She founded The Peripheral after witnessing severe censorship to domestic feminist advocacy.

    Ma Yansheng - Publication Director

    Ma Yansheng (Claire), from Jinan, Shangdong, is currently the President of the Fudan English Debate Society. She is particularly interested in legal justice regarding gender-based violence and discrimination, as well as the role of law in promoting the well-being of marginalized victims.

    Iris Chen - Media & Outreach Director

     Iris Chen hails from Shandong. From a young age, she's been drawn to women's power and feminism, keenly aware of social issues stemming from gender.She has strong empathy and communication  skills.Through her reporting, she aims to spotlight these problems, spark public attention, and push for greater gender equality.

    DescripSisley Li is a high school student currently based in Bangkok, Thailand. She is passionate about psychology, feminism, visual design, and filmmaking — driven to advocate for social issues affecting women through creative expression. Through her observations of human behavior, Sisley reflects on the connections between individual actions and the broader social issues they reveal.tion goes here.

    Sherry Lu - Media & Outreach Director

    Sherry Lu is from Suzhou. A passionate advocate for feminist film and media, she has directed plays, founded her school’s first film club, and co-launched Suzhou’s first youth creative arts and film platform. She manages the team’s social media, outreach, and partnerships to expand its reach and impact.

    Xihe Zheng - Media & Outreach Director

    Xihe Zheng is from Beijing. She is enthusiastic about political science and journalism. She is interested in the role of feminism movement in different political systems, and hopes to promote democracy through expanding the voice from gender-equality activists, creating in-depth articles in journalism. She also runs multiple personal social media accounts, and enjoys the process of accumulating followers and gaining larger influence.

  • Alina Lai - Media & Outreach Director

    Description goes hereAlina is a high school student studying at Guangzhou Zhixin High School International Department. She is particularly interested in journalism studies, sociology and gender studies. She hopes to use the internet to give a voice to people in need from different cultural and historical backgrounds, and to build a platform for groups requiring support and visibility. For example, she is currently promoting a bakery operated by individuals with intellectual disabilities. Through this project, she aims to bring more attention to current issues affecting women and  the evolution of culture, and to work together with others to become thoughtful recorders and active promoters of our time.

    Jiaqi Zhang is a high school student from Suzhou, Jiangsu. As someone deeply passionate about feminism and social justice, she brings a strong sense of purpose to journalism. She is committed to ensuring that every pitch is timely, unique, and socially relevant—especially when it comes to amplifying underrepresented voices. With experience in editing and a careful attention to tone, grammar, and authenticity, she strives to uphold high standards of professionalism and originality for The Peripheral.

    Nina Li - Project Director

    Nina Li is from Beijing. She is enthusiastic about public health and social justice, especially regarding gender equality. With multimedia skills in feature reporting and scientific knowledge from lab research, she captures the untold stories of individuals and communities from aggregate data. She also likes cats, biking, and perfumery.

    Christina Zhang - Publication and Curriculum Development Director

    Christina Zhang is a rising senior at Shanghai Pinghe School with strong academic interests in sociology, public policy, and international relations. As a student researcher, she has led projects focused on women and marginalized communities. A nationally awarded debater and public speaker, Christina blends policy analysis with persuasive communication. She is also a creative writer and performer, with poetry and dramatic works that explore the experiences of young women.

    Li Ziyue - Projects Director

    Li Ziyue (Lisa) , a 16-year-old girl from Nanjing, Jiangsu, has long interests in sociology, especially on topics about feminism and meritocracy.  She plans to study media and films in college, so she is experienced in spreading and organizing activities. She is very creative. She is taking real actions to make contribution for the world, for example, she has founded a resource sharing platform in order to shorten the gap in education.

    Staffy - Projects Director

     Staffy is an agender and aro-ace individual with a deep interest in anthropology, East Asian studies, and Korean literature. They are passionate about exploring culture, identity, and history, and strive to bring nuanced perspectives to these fields. Outside of their academic and project work, Staffy enjoys writing, traveling, and watching films, drawing inspiration from the diverse stories and experiences they encounter.

    Stella Hu - Projects Director

    Stella Hu is from Guangzhou, China. She is passionate about politics, history, and gender issues. She hopes to help marginalized groups in society, especially women in difficult situations. She also loves writing and wants to make a difference in the world. Through her writing, she hopes to advocate for justice and love.

  • Miki O - Projects Director

     Miki is from Shanghai and Tokyo. She is deeply passionate about international relations, political science, feminism, and anything related to digital music. Coming from a multicultural background, she is deeply aware of global and social issues, and hopes to continue exploring and advocating for them through writing. She has conducted research on topics in gender studies, particularly their economic and social dimensions, and strives to connect these themes with her musical interests.

    My name is Yang Yuwen and I come from Guangdong Province, China. My hobbies are fitness, reading and traveling. Regarding the neglect and discrimination that women suffer in the country, I hope to make more people aware of the current situation and awaken women's awareness by writing articles and publishing reports.

  • Victoria Liao - Publication Director

    Victoria Liao is currently a high school student at Shanghai American School. Much of her work is driven by a passion for delving into a large array of social justice perspectives through media and literature. As a part of the social justice club, she has advocated for women's rights and their role in society. Additionally, as a vital member of the publishing council, she is responsible for the publishing/showcasing of the representation of student voices. Victoria plans to play a significant part in the mission in highlighting gender equality in a contemporary context through managing social media and literature in the process of expanding The Peripheral's influence as an organization.

  • Jean Wei - Reporter

    Jean Wei is from Hubei, with a focus on sociology, psychology, and feminist cultural studies. She closely follows social issues and is dedicated to documenting and interpreting contemporary narratives of gender, identity, and justice. She believes that rational dialogue and caring action can together advance a freer, more equitable world, and continues to contribute through writing, research, and advocacy.
